possible to pick bananas, throw snowballs, swim in the Atlantic, and climb
mountains.

On the north coast, 23 miles from the port of Santa Cruz, lies Puerto de la Cruz. With Mount Teide as a dramatic backdrop, the pleasant sea promenade, lined with shops and flower-hung viewpoints, highlights Tenerife's most important resort.
Pier Information. The ship is scheduled to dock at the port of Santa Cruz, Muelle Sur. The center of town is about a half mile from the port. Taxis are generally available at the pier. Please agree on the fare before setting out.

Shopping. The main shopping area is around
the town center. Best buys are luxury items such as electronics, uncut
gems, jewelry, silks, perfumes, cosmetics, leather, embroidered
linens. and ceramics. Shops close 1 to 3:30.
Cuisine. Seafood can be found in most restaurants. For
snacks try tapas, which are miniature portions of appetizers, usually
served with wine in typical tapas bars.
Other Sights
Archaeological Museum. Exhibits illustrate the life
of the Guanches, who were the island’s first inhabitants.
Palacio Carta. A classic building, now a bank, features an
exquisite patio surrounded by delicate woodwork.
Church of the Immaculate Conception. Dating from the 16th
century, the church has a rich and gilded interior and boasts the
original cross carried by the Spanish conquerors of Tenerife and Lord
Nelson’s faded battle flag from 1797.
Municipal Park. The cool sanctuary of this popular park is noted
for its floral clock and its unique assortment of tropical trees,
flowers, and colorful birds.
